Having lost be sure an e-mail from our experts Barton and sons.  I called them.
I'm afraid we don't know of a way of actually making it disappear.
If there is a hole it, it can be patched from the inside.  I ask him could the material be gathered up a little and then a new seam  stitched in. Sadly, he said know they are already very tight.  So I think, unless somebody else has a better idea,  you have to go and replace the hood. You may want to go the insurance route.

Just to give you an idea, I ask Barton & Sons what is the average price you charge to supply and fit a new hood? They say, on average they come around £800.

It a maybe worth giving them a call and asking them for a price.

Here is a link to their profile.
