Odour Removal Question from Dan Murphy

Submitted on 29/09/2011

Hi, I bought a used car today, however while driving home I could smell something odd. upon further investigation I found a childs beaker under the front passenger seat with the reminants of what appears to be milk. The smell in the car was awefull this evening. I rubbed some carpet stain remover into the carpet today but i don't think that will help much. Model: Renault 19

The milk residue needed to be extracted. Ideally you need an carpet cleaning extraction machine. The you will need some very powerful oder kill products to clean the area. If you are quite fare away, you may want to hire a machine. I would recommend you use bicarbonate of soda. You may need to use it two or three times. If you mix it with hot water, the brush it in, then extract it. then do that two or three times. The lastly clean it with biological washing liquid. Then lastly finish with the bicarbonate of soda again. Good Luck

If that isn't successful, then I would recommend you have the seat out and get the carpet up and get to the problem. Or you could just bring it to us. One more thing, if you take the seat out, you will need to unplug it underneath. Don't turn the ignition on while its unplugged. If you do, you will need to take to your dealer to have the airbag settings reset.
