Dent Removal Question from SIAN HENNESSY

Submitted on 18/06/2008

I have 2 small scratches and one large one on the side of my van. The large one has also caused a dent - would it be possible to repair these or do I need to replace the whole panel? Thanks

Dear Sian,

This damage is too severe for us to repair. It will definitely need to be done at a bodyshop. I doubt they will replace any panels as these panels are not actually separate and make up the structure of the van... so it should be a case of beating them out and repaint them. And then you'll have to get the sign writer to put on new graphics.

I think it's very important to care for work vans. If you lease it, it will have to go back to the lease company at some point and you are highly likely to pay penalty charges for this kind of damage. If you have bought the van, then you will want to get as many years out of it as possible. Many companies change their vans every three years because thats the point where they start to look tatty... but with regular maintenance, they can easily be made to last double that, and still by smart enough to fetch a reasonable resale value at the end.
