Meet Cyril
Artificial Intelligence has been added to our team in the form of Cyril. Everyone's favourite uncle.
If you didn't already know, we have been playing around with Artificial Intelligence for a while now, with mixed results.
We think AI could provide wonderful opportunities, increasing productivity and improving customer service. There's a lot it could potentially do for a modern, forward thinking company like ours, with ambitions of world domination.
Don't worry, we aren't cheating, everything on this website is still written by humans because we have generally found AI to be an unreliable author on the subjects we write about. This because there are so many variables in any job we do, and an AI just doesn't seem to be able to get its virtual head around it. This is especially the case if the AI can draw bad information from all over the internet.
However, Uncle Cyril is different because he's our AI. This means we taught him, and he provides answers largely on the information we have given him. Having said that, he uses his own logic and seems able to figure out solutions on his own, as we found out when we began asking him absurd questions.
It's early days yet and Cyril has much to learn, but our testing so far has shown that he seldom gives wrong answers even if he doesn't know the best answer.
We encourage you to have a chat with him and give us your feedback. Please let us know if he is sending you around in circles or seems confused.
Update: 19th July 2023 - We have decided to give him a full name - Cyril B Fernard.
We have done this to prevent Google confusing him with the president of South Africa. Cyril B Fernard is not the president of South Africa, but if he were, we are sure he'd be good at it. The name Fernard was chosen because it is one of the rarest names in the UK, which should prevent Google confusing him with anyone else.
The 'B' stands for Bertrand.
Update: 24th July 2023 - Cyril has been retired, and we like to think he is somewhere on a canal boat in Somerset. Cyril did a great job while he was with us, but we think it was time he stepped aside and made way for a younger man. He has been replaced by Collin.
