Volkswagen Tiguan | Part 1 | Water Leak Detection Service Video
We see a lot of Tiguans, and they are known to have problems with the sunroofs leaking. On this car, we initially thought the windscreen leaked.
However, this vehicle is an example of another problem we see far too frequently, which is bodge-jobs by the cowboys who fit after-market equipment -- it would be too generous to call them "electricians".
That isn't to imply that they are all cowboys, but we do see rather a lot of examples where holes are drilled where holes don't belong, cutting through membranes, drilling through bulkheads, not using grommets, or pushing multiple wires through grommets designed for one wire, etc.
In this particular case, they have run the cables for a parking sensor through a rear air vent. This air vent is supposed to act as a one-way valve, letting air out, without letting water in. Wedging it open with electrical cables allows water splashed up from the road, or rain water running inside the bumper, to pour into the back of the car where it has flooded into the floor pans as you can see in the next video.
Thankfully, we have some talented chaps working for us, and James will rewire and fit the parking sensors correctly so they don't leak.
If, the company that did this is still in business, we would suggest that the customer has some recourse for the cost of drying and decontamination.
We have been repairing leaks and drying cars for over 30 years
Up to a third of the cost of your car was computers, processors and sensors. Delicate electrical systems hidden under your carpets, which might now be sitting in water.
