How do I get algae out of my roof?

Quick answer: Use a dedicated soft-top cleaner, agitate with a stiff brush, rinse thoroughly, and repeat until the hood is clean. Avoid pressure washers — a jet strong enough to strip algae can damage the fabric and leave zig-zag marks. If needed, a mild bleach solution can be used on the main fabric only, away from stitching.

I'm afraid, we have found no magic answers to getting hoods clean of algae and lichen. You can't get a hood clean without elbow grease! You can remove algae from your roof by washing with a dedicated soft-top cleaner, or a shampoo, brushing, rinsing and repeating for as long as necessary.

Using a purpose made roof cleaner will help as it has the chemicals for breaking down algae, but there are no short-cuts. Don't be tempted to blast it with a pressure washer, as any jet wash powerful enough to remove the green will be powerful enough to damage your hood, leaving you with zig-zags.

Hood manufacturers do suggest you can use a mild bleach solution on the main body of the hood, but caution you against using it near any stitching.
