How often should I re-waterproof my hood?
Quick answer: With standard 6-month reproofers, plan for twice a year (spring and autumn). The real cue is performance—re-waterproof when the fabric starts to “wet out” after rain. Garaged cars may only need it yearly; if so, do it in autumn for winter. Two-year coatings: reapply when checks show wear; keep the hood clean and drains clear.
If you have chosen to use six-month coatings, we would recommend getting it done twice a year in the spring and autumn. However, the time to do it is when it is no longer effective, which is when the hood starts to wet. Coatings can last longer, especially if the car is kept garaged, so you may find you only need to do it once a year. If this is the case, we recommend re-weatherproofing in the autumn so that it's prepared for winter.
If the coating has worn off and the roof gets soggy, then allowing this to freeze can cause additional wear to the fabric.
If you have chosen a two-year coating, then we recommend reapplying when it needs doing, checking to see if it has worn off. In either case, it is important to stay on top of maintenance, ensuring your hood is cleaned, rubbers and gutters are free of debris which could cause leaks.
