Rain Water Leak + Ceramic Coating | VW Golf Video
This car came to us with a suspected rain water leak, there were wet carpets and water on some of the door shuts.
Wet Footwells
The customer had noticed wet footwells and suspected that water was leaking through the speakers. During our initial assessment of the car, James did indeed notice water on the door rubbers which would indicate that the door membranes were a problem which is fairly common as once a car gets to a certain age, the plastic door membranes can shrink and the adhesive perishes. This will cause water to leak past this seal through the door cards and into the car.
Water in the Boot
We frequently have Volkswagen Golf owners contact us because they have found water in the boot, and there can be several causes for this, the main culprit being the rear air vents. Although there was no water in the spare wheel compartment, we did find the rear air vents to be leaking water into the boot area, which was then running through the box section and onto the back seat where it left a rusty stain. Water usually finds its way to the lowest part of the car, so rain water leaking into the boot might not stay in the boot.
Leak inspection
We performed our water leak detection inspection, found the source of the leaks was due to door membranes and the rear air vents. There were additional areas of concern when a sound system had been fitted and holes placed where holes don't belong. We were able to make good on these modifications. Our rain water leak inspection also covers all areas of the car where water ingress is possible and likely, and this includes the scuttle area and pollen filter housing, where we didn't find any problems on this occasion.
Drying the carpets
Once the cause of the problems were fixed, we addressed the real issue with the car, which was that it was full of water. We removed the seats and lifted the carpets and used our machines to dry it. You haven't really solved the problem unless the car is dried and decontaminated so that there are no mould or electrical issues further down the line.

Water Leak Repairs
Levelling up!
After the leaks were fixed and the car dried, the customer wanted a ceramic coating. We assessed the car and found a few nicks and scratches.
We always polish a car when we are going to apply a ceramic sealant, but this car had some damage, so we had a bumper repair and did some additional paintwork correction.
The car was then treated with Matrix Black 8-year ceramic sealant.
