Headlight Restoration | Ford Focus Video
Dull and tarnished headlights can cause an MOT fail, but replacing them can be expensive. The answer is to polish your headlights to make them look new.
Headlight polishing works out far cheaper than replacement as they come as you can't just replace the plastic lens, you have to replace the entire unit which can cost hundreds of pounds on some models.
Headlight polishing is fairly quick and for the most part very effective. Headlights can become cloudy and oxidized, scratched, crazed or suffer from yellowing where they absorb pollutants that discolours them. In the vast majority of cases, we can sand all this off and then polish them up like new. And then, to ensure they stay that way, we treat them as a ceramic coating. After all, it is still old plastic which has lost many of its plasticizers and so might be prone to corrosion more quickly. A ceramic coating on your headlights protects them from the elements and also helps keep them stay clean as it repels dirt and water.
Aside from ensuring you pass your MOT, dull headlights seriously affect the overall appearance of a car, so polishing your headlights makes your car look years newer.
