This Ford Ranger was brought to us to tidy up before it is handed over to a new driver.

The job had a little bit of everything, and as I have just written an article discussing the difference between car valeting and car detailing, I thought I would show this as it throws a spanner in the works of any definition.

Vehicle Handover is something we are asked to do occasionally, and it might take many forms, depending on the policies and terms of the company wanting us to do it. Some might like a report, similar to an end-of-lease inspection, because drivers are liable for the condition of their vehicles. Other time, they expect a high level of wear and tear, and just want the vehicle tidied up because they don't want to hand over 'an absolute shed' to a new employee.

The vehicle was filthy dirty, had been heavily smoked in, and had three buckets worth of wet concrete in the back which needed to be removed. However, our aim was not to get this vehicle in showroom condition, but to give it a tidy-up.

Removing cigarette odours is a service we provide, but not on this occasion. Giving the car a good clean will remove a lot of the odour, but seldom all. The new driver for this vehicle is also a smoker, and so unlikely to complain about the smell, but we put in some deodorant as a courtesy anyway.

Decontamination of things like concrete is also a service we provide. This isn't how we usually find vehicles, more often it is a bit of splatter on the paintwork, not wet cement in the back!

There were some scratches which we polished out, and some other bits of pieces we could tidy up to make the vehicle look respectable, and the customer was sent a video so they have a record of the general condition of the vehicle.

By the end of the week, this vehicle will once again have muddy boots in the front, and bags of cement in the back, because that's what it's for.  It isn't always the aim to get vehicles to showroom condition, sometimes making them presentable is plenty enough for the needs of the customer.
