Car Detailing

Professional car detailing in Chelmsford, Essex -- paintwork correction, interior restoration, soft-top care and specialist treatments. Our team has been doing this since 1987.

Detailing is a broad word. To some people it means a valet; to others it means taking a car apart and bringing it back to something close to what it was. We do the latter. Our guys are trained on paint correction, odour elimination, upholstery restoration and ceramic coating prep -- the kind of work where the hours show in the result. If you want it done properly, this is the right place.

When professional detailing is done well, a car leaves here looking closer to what it was the day it was built than the day it arrived. That takes trained people, the right equipment and enough time to do each surface properly: paint, glass, trim, fabric, leather, rubber. That is still what detailing means here.

New Again has been detailing cars in Chelmsford since 1987. The work is done using professional-grade equipment: dual-action and rotary polishers, extraction machines, ozone generators, steam and specialist fabric and leather chemistry.

That matters because the price of car detailing reflects the hours. A full interior restoration on a car that has had dogs, children or a significant spillage takes the best part of a day. Paint correction on a car with wash marks and oxidation takes longer. One customer, Mrs Edwards, brought in a car that her kids had turned into a shed: spills, smell, scuffs inside and out. We spent a day on the interior and a session on the paint. She sold it afterwards for far more than the offers she had received before bringing it to us.

The services below cover the full scope of what we do under the detailing umbrella: exterior polishing and paint prep, interior cleaning and restoration, specialist fallout and contamination removal, convertible hood care, new-car protection and more. Each one is a stand-alone service; most customers come in for one specific thing rather than a package.

What Professional Car Detailing Actually Involves

Paint decontamination and correction

Paint decontamination and correction removes bonded contamination -- tar, iron fallout, industrial deposit -- that washing cannot touch. Polishing then removes oxidation, wash marks and surface scratches; deeper scratches may need additional stages. The number of passes depends on the condition of the paint, and cutting corners shows in the result.

Interior extraction and restoration

A proper interior detail means every surface treated with the correct chemistry for what it is made of. Fabric, leather, alcantara and vinyl all need different products and different methods. Difficult jobs need more. Heavy soiling, spillages and pet contamination mean extraction, steam and full drying. We have the equipment to dry a car properly. It comes back smelling clean, not damp. Odour treatment is its own discipline. Masking an odour and eliminating its source are not the same thing.

Soft-top and specialist surface care

Convertible hoods are hard work to clean properly. Despite what you may have been told, there is no such thing as re-dying a roof. Roof dye is actually paint and you end up with a finish that looks like painted canvas, not soft mohair. This is not the path we take. We clean them without re-colouring: hard work and the persistence to keep going until it is actually done. You cannot see whether you got all the dirt until the roof is dry -- if you missed a patch, you start again. Then dry it again. Drying matters: you cannot apply a water repellent coating to wet fabric.

Protection and prep

Detailing is also the foundation for paint protection. A ceramic coating applied to uncorrected paint locks in every scratch and swirl mark permanently. Correct prep (polish, decontaminate, panel-wipe) is what separates a coating that lasts from one that fails early.

Car Detailing FAQs

How much does professional car detailing cost?

It depends on the work involved. A single-stage exterior polish on a well-maintained car runs differently from a multi-stage correction on a car with heavy swirling. Interior work is priced on condition and time, not car size. We give an estimate after a brief assessment here in Chelmsford -- most take two minutes by photo. Call or message and we will give you a realistic figure the same day.

How long does it take?

A full exterior polish takes three to six hours depending on the correction level. A full interior restoration takes four to eight hours depending on condition. We book a full day for combined work. Cars left with us are kept under cover and returned the same day in most cases, occasionally the next morning for more complex jobs.

Is it worth detailing a high-mileage or older car?

Often yes. Paint correction in particular can transform the appearance of an older car dramatically -- oxidised, dull paint responds very well to polishing. The question is whether the cost is proportionate to the car’s value or what you plan to do with it. We will give you an honest assessment rather than take on work that does not make sense for you.

Do you work on all makes and models?

Yes. We work on everyday cars as well as classics and performance vehicles. The approach is the same: assess the surfaces, use the correct products and process, do the job properly. The make or value of the car does not change that.

We had our family car fully detailed and disinfected inside. After getting it back, I must admit I have never seen the interior so clean -- it looked like it just rolled off the assembly line, and it is an 8 year old car.
