Ceramic Coating

Ceramic Coating

Ceramic coating bonds permanently to your paint, creating a hard hydrophobic layer. Water sheets off; surface dirt comes with it; your car cleans itself between washes.

In the UK climate, that matters more than you'd expect. Fewer washes, less time cleaning, paint that holds its depth from the day you collected the car. The long-term benefit tends to creep up on you. A comment we hear regularly: "I didn't realise just how good it was until I parked next to a car the same age." The coating holds your paint where it was on application day; the car next to it has three more years of UV and contamination built up.

Why choose New Again for ceramic coating?

Transparent, all-in pricing - including paint correction

Our ceramic coating prices are clear and all-in, including the necessary paintwork correction before any coating is applied. We inspect the vehicle, agree the scope of work, and confirm the price before we begin - with no hidden costs or unexpected add-ons.

Paintwork correction is a vital stage in the process of applying a ceramic coating

Paint first, then coat -- why preparation is critical

Ceramic coating preserves paint in exactly the condition it's in on the day of application -- which is why preparation is where most of the work happens, and where most of the skill lies. Machine polishing to correct swirl marks, oxidation and fine scratches takes real training and experience. A badly polished car under a ceramic coating is a perfectly preserved badly polished car. Finding someone genuinely skilled at paint correction matters as much as the coating itself.

Transferable warranty for added peace of mind

Alongside the manufacturer's warranty, we include our own transferable warranty. If you sell the car, the protection passes to the new owner -- a genuine selling point that gives buyers confidence in the car's condition and can be reflected in the asking price.

Accredited installers

We are accredited by AutoSmart Matrix, Fireball, Siramik, and Ceramic Guard. Four members of our team -- Gary, Tom, Matt and Alfie -- hold individual installer accreditations, not just a company-level certificate. Your coating is applied by someone the brand itself has assessed and approved.

Trusted ceramic coating brands - with the right coating for your car

We only use trusted, professional-grade ceramic coatings such as AutoSmart Matrix and Fireball, and we offer a range of coating options to suit different paint types, mileages, expected use, and budgets. We recommend the right coating for your car, not a one-size-fits-all package.

A purpose-built detailing studio for paint correction and ceramic coating

Our large, fully enclosed studio in Chelmsford, Essex is specially equipped for paintwork correction and ceramic coating application, with space for up to 5 cars at a time. We are fully insured, every vehicle is kept indoors, and your car is handled with professional care only - from arrival to handover.

39 years' experience - hundreds of coated cars

We've been applying protective coatings since 1987 -- polymer sealants from the start, ceramic coatings since 2010. That background matters; knowing what both technologies demand means we prepare paint to a level that gets the best out of whichever coating is right for your car.

Ceramic coatings aren’t just for supercars. Almost any car can benefit, which is why we offer a range of coatings across different brands and price points - making professional protection accessible for everyday cars too.

Ceramic Coating Benefits

Makes your paint look superb -- and keeps it that way

The gloss is immediate. What surprises people is how long it lasts. Three years in, the car still turns heads in a car park full of newer vehicles. That's the coating holding the finish where it was on day one.

Easier to clean

Ceramic coatings are slick and highly hydrophobic, so dirt struggles to bond to the paint. That means fewer washes, and easier washes. In the right conditions, your car can even look cleaner after rain. One customer told us: “I found my car was so easy to clean and took so little time, I had the whole family’s cars done.”

Long-lasting protection

Traditional waxes may last weeks or months. Ceramic coatings can last years (depending on the product and maintenance) and bond to the surface in a way that can only be removed by abrasion - not by simple chemicals.

Keeps your car looking younger for longer

Paintwork ages mainly through oxidation and wash marring (fine micro-scratches from washing). A quality coating resists micro-marring and keeps the finish looking fresher for longer - especially when paired with the right wash method.

Protection from road film, bird acid and salt

Bird droppings are mildly acidic and etch into unprotected paint if left. Road salts and film build up through winter. A ceramic coating gives the paint a resistant surface that takes the hit instead; easier to remove, less likely to cause lasting damage.

Keep your options open - resale or long-term ownership

Well-protected paint gives you flexibility. Whether you plan to keep the car long-term, sell privately, or return it to a lease company, maintaining paint condition reduces future costs and unpleasant surprises. Ceramic coating isn’t about locking you into one path - it’s about preserving the condition of the car so you have more choices later.

Reduce the need for corrective work later

Most paint damage isn’t dramatic; it’s the slow accumulation of small marks caused by everyday use and washing. Automated car washes, quick hand washes, and dealer valets all introduce fine scratches over time. A ceramic coating provides a harder, more resilient surface that resists this type of light abrasion, meaning fewer visible marks build up in the first place and far less need for corrective work later.

Ceramic coating isn’t just about how a car looks today - it’s about avoiding preventable problems tomorrow.

“Almost every customer who comes back for a second coating says the same thing -- they didn't really believe the self-cleaning part before they had it done. They booked it for the protection. It's the easier washing they'd miss most.”

Protecting paintwork in Chelmsford for 39 years

Our process

Preparation, Correction, Coating - Done Properly

  1. Initial inspection - we assess paint condition and agree the expected finish and the price before work begins.
  2. Safe wash and decontamination - remove bonded contamination so we are polishing clean paint, not grinding in grime.
  3. Paintwork correction - machine polishing to refine gloss and remove defects where possible (included in your agreed price).
  4. Panel preparation - correct surface prep so the coating bonds properly.
  5. Ceramic coating application - applied by accredited installers in our indoor studio.
  6. Curing and handover - we talk you through aftercare so you get the best longevity and appearance from your coating.

Your car remains indoors, fully insured, and under our care throughout its time with us.

“The coating does the work, but how you wash the car in the first few months makes a real difference to how long it lasts. We always walk through this at handover - it’s worth five minutes.” - Tom, our operations manager.

For a full aftercare guide, including which products to avoid and when you can use a pressure washer, see our ceramic coating aftercare guide in the knowledge base.

What we won't do

  • We won’t apply coatings outdoors
  • We won’t skip preparation to meet a price
  • We won’t make unrealistic claims
  • We won’t apply ceramic coating where it’s not suitable

“I reversed my own car into a metal post. I expected paint damage -- what I found was a silver streak of paint transfer sitting on top of the coating. A wipe with thinners took it off completely. The faint marks underneath polished out. I've seen the same thing with customer cars since. The coating doesn't prevent the contact; it means the damage stays recoverable.”

Ceramic Coating FAQs

Are you mobile?

No; ceramic coatings need a controlled environment for both temperature and humidity, and the car stays indoors for 12 hours while it cures. Mobile is not possible.

Do you include paintwork correction in the price?

Yes - our pricing is all-in and includes the necessary paintwork correction. We inspect the car and agree a price before we start, with no hidden costs.

How long does a ceramic coating last?

It depends on the coating you choose and how the car is maintained. We offer options from around 3-years up to 10-years, but they can last longer if cared for; we’ll recommend the right one for your car.

Is ceramic coating worth it for a daily driver?

Absolutely; daily drivers often benefit most because the coating makes washing easier and helps protect against road film and contamination.

Will it stop scratches?

Ceramic coatings help resist light wash marring and reduce how easily contamination sticks, but they are not bulletproof and won’t prevent all scratches or stone chips.

Where can I see examples of your work?

You can see examples of cars we have restored and applied ceramic coatings to, on our photo gallery. You can see videos of cars with ceramic coatings on our Vlog. And you can see what we have been doing recently on our Facebook Page.

How much does a ceramic coating cost?

The majority of the cost is in the paintwork correction that comes before the coating -- not the product itself. Matrix Blue is our most popular entry-level coating, rated great value by our team in our own coating survey. Prices start from £580 for a new car and £763 for a used car (small car; prices vary by size). For full pricing across our range see the individual coating pages, or contact us for a free consultation.

Can ceramic coating go on a convertible roof?

No -- ceramic coatings are for hard surfaces: paint, glass and alloys. Fabric hoods need a specialist textile coating, which we also offer. (Vinyl roofs are largely a thing of the past; modern soft-tops are fabric.) We run combined deals when you're having the hood treated at the same time as the paintwork -- ask when you book. See our soft-top coating service.

What do I need to do to maintain the coating afterwards?

Less than you do now. The coating repels dirt and water, so your car stays cleaner between washes and rinses off faster when you do clean it. Normal car shampoo is fine -- no specialist products required. An occasional top-up will extend the coating's performance, but it's not compulsory.
