Matrix Black is built for colour enrichment as much as protection. On dark paint -- black, deep blue, dark grey -- the difference is visible the moment the job is finished: richer, deeper, with a clarity that wax can’t produce. On metallics, the finish takes on a crispness that makes the flake visible in a way it wasn’t before. AutoSmart’s own description is “superior optical purity”; in the workshop we just say it looks exceptional.
The hydrophobic layer means water beads and rolls off carrying dirt with it. Your car stays cleaner between washes and is much easier to maintain when you do wash it.

Is Matrix Black the right coating for you?
Matrix Black suits the customer where colour is the point and protection is expected, not just appreciated. On dark paint and strong metallics it delivers the most visible immediate result of any single-layer coating in our range. It’s the product we measure everything else against; if you haven’t seen it on a freshly polished dark car, it’s difficult to describe.
Matrix Black Ceramic Coating
Matrix Black uses the latest generation ceramic technology -- a hard, clear SiO2 layer that bonds chemically to the paint surface. It’s rated 9H on the pencil hardness scale; it resists micro-scratches from washing and road grime, and it won’t crack, burn off or peel the way wax does. AutoSmart manufacture it in the UK; we apply it as trained professionals.
What Matrix Black delivers
- Colour enrichment -- crystalline finish with superior optical purity; colours clearer and richer, metallic finishes really stand out. AutoSmart built this into the formula deliberately.
- 8-year warranty -- backed by AutoSmart’s manufacturer guarantee and our own no-fuss, transferable warranty. See our full guarantee.
- Outstanding hydrophobicity -- water beads and rolls off carrying dirt with it; refresh the effect at any time with Matrix Recharge.

So, when he recently bought a brand new car and although the dealership offered to do the ceramic coating on his vehicle, he decided to go back to New Again for them to carry out the ceramic coating due to the great job they’d done on his previous car.

Talk to us Today!Matrix Black - Ceramic Coating FAQs
Is Matrix Black only for black cars?
No - Matrix Black works on any colour. It looks incredible on black and other dark colours, and it’s exceptional on pearlescent metallic finishes, but it’s formulated to enhance and protect all paint colours.
Is Matrix Black scratch resistant?
Yes, to a point. Ceramic coatings are tough and help resist wash marks and light scratches - the sort you get brushing past hedges or rhododendrons. It noticeably toughens the paint, but it isn’t bulletproof.
What’s the durability of Matrix Black?
Autosmart warranties Matrix Black for 8 years, and we stand behind that. In our experience, quality paint protection often lasts far longer in the real world. We’ve seen older polymer coatings exceed their guarantees, and ceramics are typically more durable than polymer.
Why is Matrix Black expensive?
Our prices are inclusive of full paintwork preparation. New cars are cheaper because they usually need less correction. The coating is permanent and unforgiving, so the paint has to be as good as it gets before application - there’s virtually zero margin for error.
Can I wax over a ceramic coating?
You can, but you probably won’t need to. Wax won’t harm the coating, though some products may not bond perfectly. If you want extra gloss between washes, a wash-and-wax product is fine, or use Matrix Recharge, which we can apply for you or you can buy to use yourself.
