Matrix Blue Ceramic Coating: Jaguar F-Type

This Jaguar F-Type was the first car Kieran coated with Matrix Blue. We had already been applying Matrix Black, so the product and the process were familiar -- but this was the first time with the Blue, and Kieran was interested to see whether it delivered the same result.

The Preparation

The car went through the full sequence: wash, exterior detail, clay bar to remove surface contamination, machine polish, then an alcohol panel wipe to remove every trace of polishing residue. Only then does the coating go on. The wheels had some yellowing on the finish which was cleaned back before the coating was applied to those too.

Kieran applies the coating in a crisscross pattern to make sure every part of the panel gets full coverage. As it cures you can see a rainbow effect appear across the surface -- that is the coating bonding to the paint. Once the majority of the residue is buffed off, a final light buff removes any remaining haze and leaves the finish.

The Hood

While the car was in, the convertible hood was cleaned and given a nano-coating as part of the same visit. The F-Type hood was in good condition; a machine clean with specialist brushes and a nano-coating application to protect it going forward. One visit, two services.

Matrix Blue vs Matrix Black

Matrix Blue is a three-year ceramic coating. It is every bit as glossy and hydrophobic as Matrix Black -- Kieran notes the camera is struggling with the reflections, which is always a reasonable indicator of how a finish looks in person. The difference is the durability: Matrix Black is rated to eight years, Matrix Blue to three. That makes Blue the natural choice for drivers who change cars every three years or so -- you get the full benefit of the coating across your ownership period, and the resale value advantage when you come to sell.
