This Audi A5 Cabriolet came in for a hood clean and reproof with a minimum two-year protective coating, Krytox rubber treatment, a drain flush and an exterior detail.
What we found before we started
The roof was not in the worst condition, but the wear was starting to show. Around the rear window and along the fold lines there were wear lines running across the fabric; pulling the crease back revealed dirt that had been building up in the folds. There were a couple of small worn patches where the fabric had started to wear through -- one each side -- caused by grit sitting in the crease points every time the roof folds up and down. The waterproof coating had worn back enough that the hood was starting to go green in places.
The exterior was getting the special-offer detail at the same time, which was worth doing while the car was in.
The result
After the machine clean, reproof and two-year nano-coating the roof came out looking brand new. The wear marks in the fabric are still there; once the dirt has worn into a crease that is permanent, and there is nothing a clean can do to reverse it. But the hood is now protected, the rubbers are sealed, the drains are clear and it is ready to be enjoyed for at least another two years without thinking about it again.
