A 2014 Mini Cooper convertible in for its hood clean and reproof. Dirt had built up particularly at the back of the roof -- the back tends to accumulate more than anywhere else. The rubbers are getting a neoprene conditioning treatment and the drains are being flushed as part of the same job.

The Chemical Reaction -- Visible

This video shows what the cleaning product actually does when it goes on. The chemical is applied to the roof and you can watch it react with the dirt in real time: the foam turns white where the contamination is, showing the chemical breaking down the organic matter in the fibres. The more you see it foam up, the more dirt is in the fabric.

The process: apply, let it dwell, agitate with mechanical brushes to loosen the dirt from inside the grain, jet it off, apply again, brush again, jet off. Repeat until the rinse water runs clear. Mechanical brushes speed up what used to take all day. Then dry completely before the coating goes on -- any residual moisture will affect adhesion.

The Result

The roof came up looking like new -- dramatic difference from the dirty grey-green it arrived as. Rubbers conditioned all the way around the car, drains flushed, two-year hydrophobic nano coating on the roof. The exterior detail included the glass inside and out. The car looks like a different vehicle.
