Jaguar XK hood clean and reproof. Not very dirty. Hood wear marks visible but cannot be removed -- the coating darkens the fabric and reduces contrast. Steamed-up windows confirmed a leak; drain flush and Krytox on rubbers.
This Jaguar XK's hood was not very dirty when it arrived -- light soiling rather than heavy contamination. The visible wear marks in the fabric are unfortunately not something that can be reversed; wear marks in a soft top are permanent once the fibres have been damaged by grit. The reproofing treatment does darken the hood up, which reduces the contrast between worn and unworn areas, but the marks remain.
What the cleaning did confirm was that the roof was letting water in. If the windows are steaming up in a convertible, the most likely causes are either the door rubbers failing to seal properly or the rear scuttle drainage being blocked. Both are addressed in our roof cleaning service as standard: rubber conditioning with Krytox to restore the seal, and drain flush to clear any blockage. Both are worth doing on any convertible of age whether or not there is an active leak, because the cost of prevention is far less than the cost of dealing with water in the carpets.
