Mercedes E200 | Soft-Top Cleaning and Weatherproofing

Mercedes E200 soft-top: hood machine-cleaned, two-year waterproof coating applied, rubbers Krytox-treated and drains cleared. Before: green and grubby. After: looking exactly as it should.

This Mercedes E200 came in with a convertible hood that had gone well past grubby. The fabric was supposed to be blue -- it had turned green, with streaks of grime worked in. Left long enough, that's what happens: the fabric stays damp after rain, and moss and lichen find their footing.

The hood got a full machine clean first, then a two-stage hydrophobic coating. The coating makes the fabric genuinely waterproof rather than just water-resistant -- rain beads and rolls off instead of soaking in and sitting there. It also contains antifungals, so the moss and green growth can't come back.

While the car was in, we cleared the rear gutters of leaves and debris, unblocked the drains, and treated all the rubber seals with Krytox. The Krytox keeps the rubbers supple and sealing properly -- dried-out seals are one of the most common routes for water to get in around a convertible roof.

The result: the roof came out a proper deep blue again, looking exactly as it should. The customer also had the exterior detail while it was with us, so the whole car left looking sharp.

We offer convertible roof cleaning and restoration at various levels; the two-year hydrophobic coating is by far the most popular -- it's the most cost-effective option and gives the best finish. See also cabriolet hood protection for longer-term options.
