This Audi A5 convertible came in with fold lines worn into the hood fabric. You can see them clearly at the start of the video -- creases where the roof has been folded repeatedly while dirty, gradually abrading the fibres. Left alone, those lines wear right through the fabric. It's one of the main reasons regular soft-top maintenance matters.
What we can and can't do
We can't remove the wear marks themselves -- once the fibres are abraded, that's physical damage. What we can do is clean the rest of the hood properly, apply the two-year waterproof coating, and darken the fabric back up so the marks become far less noticeable. You can see the difference in the video.
The coating makes the fabric genuinely waterproof again, so rain beads off rather than soaking in. A wet roof that stays damp is what accelerates this kind of wear -- and gives moss the foothold to start growing.
The full treatment
As well as the hood clean and coating, the drains were flushed out and Krytox applied to all the rubber seals -- doors, boot, roof compartment, and the roof surround itself. Krytox keeps the rubbers supple and compressing properly; dried-out seals are how water finds its way in around a convertible roof even when the fabric itself is sound.
The customer also had the exterior detail with a spray polish, so the whole car left looking sharp.
