0:00 OK, so now we've got the cabriolet roof lifted up, so we carry on where we left off. If we can see inside here, we can see that there's condensation arising on the top of the hatch, and also it's running down here, and it's sitting on top of the cover. So that's suggesting that the water's getting in this back hatch, and then it's causing it to condensate. And if we just look on these rubbers here, which create a sill to stop the water coming in, we can see that the water's been passing through there,

0:30 just where it's dirty, and it's like that all the way around on the sill. Also up here on the window sill as well, we can see now there's a little drain there, which obviously allows it to drain off, and as we can see, this is all nice and dirty, so it's not creating a nice sill, so that would cause the water to obviously pass into this box section.

0:54 Coming around to the passenger side, we can see on the rubber again, so the rubber looks like it has had water passing through, so we can see that there's dirt on the inside here, where once this is then shut, it should create a lovely, nice seal. So we can see water here as well.

1:13 So we believe that that's probably cleaning up and Krytoxing, which would solve that problem now. The next one, what we're gonna do is we're gonna put a bit of water down on your drainage system, and then we're gonna go inside the boot. But to do that, I need to put water down here, and then I need to shut everything up to then be able to get into the boat.

1:31 And so what we're gonna do is we're just gonna quickly, I'll quickly shuttle the roof up, so we can obviously test this one out here.

The second part of our diagnosis into this BMW 6 Series, which has wet carpets, from what we suspect are multiple rain water leaks.

The rubbers around the boot for the convertible roof are dirty so that they aren't making a proper seal. This is letting in small amounts of water into this area, which are resulting in condensation.

Solution: We will lean these rubbers and treat them to make them soft and supple again. This will solve one problem, but there is still the issue with water in the boot, which is covered in part 3. (Part 1 here)

Question: "I have a convertible hood on my car and I have a leak, how much will a new roof cost me?"

Answer: I wouldn't jump to conclusions, it is very rare for cabriolet roofs to need replacing because they leak. Underneath the fabric which you see is a rubber membrane and these are usually very hard-wearing. Unless your car is very old, it is unlikely to need a new one. It's far more likely that drainage holes are blocked or the rubbers that that seal around the windscreen and doors require some attention. Often a good clean is enough to stop the leaks, otherwise replacement rubbers, which are far cheaper than a new roof.
