MG Roadster - Bit of a tidy up!

MG Roadster with a bolt-by-bolt mechanical restoration but cosmetically tired. Clean, chrome polish, PDR on the dents, polish and wax to 75% -- not more, because over-polishing an imperfect car highlights every flaw.

This MG Roadster had an unusual history: somebody who used to work in the MG factory had done a complete mechanical restoration, rebuilding the engine and running gear bolt by bolt. The car was in perfect mechanical condition. The bodywork and interior, however, had not received the same attention.

There were two approaches available: a full strip-down and respray, or accept that it is a 60-year-old car with history written into it and make the best of what was there. The customer chose the latter. We cleaned the car inside and out, cleaned the soft-top hood, spent considerable time polishing the chrome, and handled the majority of the numerous small dents with paintless dent removal. A polish and coat of wax brought the paintwork up to about 75% of where it could be if everything was perfect. Going further would have highlighted every imperfection more sharply -- on a car like this, a degree of restraint in the polishing produces a better overall result.

The customer collected a car that was vastly improved at a reasonable cost. Old cars have their character and we rather like that vintage smell.
