VW Golf Cabriolet Roof Cleaning

Recently bought VW Golf cabriolet with a dirty, neglected hood brought straight to us. Cleaned and reproofed -- the right call before the condition worsened.

The owner of this VW Golf cabriolet had just bought the car -- the roof was dirty but they took a chance on it and brought it straight to us. It paid off. A recently bought convertible with a neglected roof is exactly the situation where a clean and reproof makes the most sense: you are starting fresh, and from this point the roof is protected rather than deteriorating.

The job covered a full clean, two-year nano protection coat, drain flush and neoprene rubber conditioning. The crease lines in the fabric are still visible after cleaning -- they always are on a used hood -- but as Gary puts it, those lines are like the lines in the palm of your hand. They are not a problem in themselves. The problem is grit sitting in those creases: every time the roof folds open and closed it acts like sandpaper, and eventually it wears through. This car had grit in the fabric, but it was caught in time. The roof came out looking rather wonderful.

One question we get regularly: what time of year is best to get a convertible roof cleaned? The answer is any time -- if it looks dirty, get it done. The dirt is not just an aesthetic problem; it is actively wearing the roof every time you put it up or down.

The owner also took advantage of a special offer and added a boutique wax to the paintwork, so the car left looking its best all round. We were told the plan was to head down to the coast with the roof down. We hope the weather held.
