Cleaning a Graphene Coating with a pressure washer

Gary cleans his other half's graphene-coated Honda CR-V with a £4 supermarket jet wash. Three months in, washed twice, still shiny. Pressure washer + soft brush, 8 minutes, done.

This is Gary's other half's car -- a Honda CR-V, about eight years old, diesel 1500. They had owned it for three or four months when this was filmed. We had put a graphene coating on it when they got it, and this video is the first proper look at how it is performing.

We had washed it twice in those three months. That is it. Heavy rainfall had come through, there had been a hot dry spell with dusty roads, and the car had dealt with all of it and cleaned itself back down again each time. It was still shiny. Not because it had been cleaned -- because the coating keeps the dirt from bonding properly so the rain does the work.

Gary took it to the jet wash at the supermarket -- £4 in the machine, a pressure washer and a soft brush. That is all you need on a coated car. No special shampoo, no two-bucket method, no careful drying. You can see immediately on the bonnet: the water sheets off the moment the jet hits it, the dirt lifts and runs straight down. The wheels came clean the same way. Eight minutes from dirty to dry, including wiping it down after.

A lot of the cars we coat are higher-end vehicles where the owner would not use a jet wash brush on the paintwork regardless. Gary is happy to use one here because the coating is doing its job -- the surface hardness means a soft brush is not going to cause swirl marks the way it would on unprotected paint. The coating is working as a barrier between the brush and the lacquer.

The "supermarket test" is Gary's name for it: park up in a normal car park, under normal lighting, after a normal wash. Does it still look like a car someone looks after? It did. Lights shiny, paintwork gleaming, no water spots on the glass. Hot weather had not brought any insect residue either -- another hydrophobic benefit.

We have been applying graphene coatings for about two years on this filming. Every car we have put one on has been someone else's. Putting it on a car we keep an eye on every day means we can give you an honest account of how it actually performs over time, not just on collection day.
