The judges picked out two things: that we treat restoration as a sensible alternative to buying new, and that we tell customers what is needed and why. Here is what they wrote, and what it actually means in the workshop.

New Again has won Car Detailing Services of the Year at the London & South East England Prestige Awards 2026/27.

What pleased me most was what the judges wrote, so I will let them go first.

The judges were particularly impressed by New Again's commitment to making restoration a sensible alternative to buying new, combining specialist craftsmanship with a transparent service. Customers are told what is needed and why, with video updates keeping them informed.

That is the bit I am pleased about, because it is the thing we actually argue about internally. Restoration as an alternative to buying new is not a slogan we reached for; it is the whole reason the business exists. We have been doing it from the same Chelmsford workshop since 1987.

The transparency point matters just as much, and it is less comfortable than it sounds. Telling a customer what is needed and why means quite often telling them they do not need the expensive thing. It means sending a video of the panel and saying that will not polish out, rather than having a go and hoping. You lose work that way. You also stop being the kind of outfit that people warn their mates about, which broadly speaking is the better trade.

I am not going to pretend an award changes what happens in the workshop on a Monday morning. But the judges read what we do and described it back to us accurately, and that is a good thing to have happen.

Gary went and collected it. He told me he had a great time, met a lot of wonderful people and had plenty of interesting conversations about business.

The full write-up is on the Prestige Awards site if you want to read it.

Right. Back to work.
