0:00 OK, so we're now obviously going to carry on. We're going to put some water over this top sill. OK, and then if we quickly go inside, there we go, so we can see it dripping in past the box section, so it's a bit more visible on this side. So there we go. And obviously that corresponds with all of this wetness in here. Now what we're going to do is we're going to test this rear air vent, which is up behind the rear bumper. It's a little bit

0:46 tricky. So what we're going to do is we're going to turn the hose on, and we've got that facing up the inside of the bumper. Okay, so we've now got that obviously running through, and if we just quickly lift up this section here. Okay, now what we did notice on this one here is up in this section here we have water rolling off, and it does slowly start to come in. So let me just quickly give that a wiggle. Okay, so there we go, so we can see the water coming down in this

1:49 side here. So once this is then filling up, this thing coming over the top, and it's falling down inside. Can't really see the passenger room. And also we're getting water coming through this side here, but we can see there obviously that water shouldn't be coming through that vent now. And so we have wires changing the rear vent as well, because we do know they are a common fault on the rear of the Alexis'. So I believe that's everything we've found so far. And just to show you there, if we can just focus just where my finger is, we can just see that

2:46 tiny drop just starting to come down on the right hand side of the vent as well. So it's not a major leak, it's a tiny one, but obviously a leak is a leak. So there we go, I believe that's everything we've found so far. The only thing is we have to obviously get this coal lovely and dry, because it is a hybrid car. And there we go, I believe that's everything we've found.

This is a continuation of a video which was cut off: See Part One

James pours water over the near-side seam to show where the water is leaking in. This is pretty much the same on both sides of the car.

We then tested the rear air vent (near side) which faces behind the bumper. James puts a hose on it and demonstrates that it is also leaking.

Solution: The cracked seams can be solved by smearing sealant into them. As for the rear vents, these too could be made waterproof with sealant, and that is what your local mechanic would probably do if you took it to them. However, we usually replace the vents which have a built-in gasket because we like to keep everything factory fresh.

Question: "Why do you insist on replacing with new parts? Wouldn't it be cheaper just to seal it up?"

Answer: Once you have sealed something up, that's pretty much permanent. If for some reason you need a part removed at a later day, your mechanic may well just cut it out then fix it back in when he's done, giving you another water leak. Besides, we have found that some of the manufacturers identify that their parts are prone to leak and improve the design or use better quality materials.

However, sometimes it is just not worth ordering a part from halfway around the world if it's just a sheet of clear plastic or a rubber grommet, which is much like so many others. We try to do what's best for the customer.
