Peugeot 308 2015 | Water Leak Detection

Video transcript

0:00 Okay, today we have a Peugeot 308 in, 2015. I'm just going to go through and show you what we've found so far on the leaking. So first things first, what we're going to test is we're going to put the hosepipe up on the scuttle area. So we've got the scuttle area just filling up. It does seem to be maybe blocked there, because there is quite a lot of water building up. So if we quickly go underneath the driver's dashboard, we can see. If we look very closely, we can see that it's leaking off the pollen housing filter.

0:34 So that corresponds with the water being in the drivers footwell as well, and we've got a little leak coming out here as well. So I believe that's all stemming from that bit up there. So that would be the first one. Coming to the second one would be, we're gonna focus on this door, and so I just quickly get me light down there. Okay, so we're gonna get the hose now. And what we want to do is we're just going to put the hose down at the back of the door

1:04 membrane, just simulating that it's out in the rain. And then what that should be doing is it should be coming out the bottom of the door, which it is doing. But if I just quickly come round here, we can see that it's running out through here and here and here as well. So we've got a driver's door membrane which is leaking as well.

1:26 Round to the back of the car, and behind here we have your rear air vents. And the reason for checking this is you can see that there's water in there, and it looks like it's been in there for a while because it's rusty. And so if I just get my torch in here a second, so behind this panel here we have the air vent, which is the ventilation shaft, and just so obviously the air can move through the car freely. So what we're going to do is

1:58 we're going to grab our hose. So we'll quickly grab my hose. You want to go around the back of the car. Right, okay, so what we're going to do is we're going to angle the hose directly here. Oh no, maybe not. We'll just readjust that there. Right up there a second. Okay, so we've got the hose up on the light there, and then what that should then simulate is the water then drips onto that bit there, and then we can see that it's just starting to drip out the bottom of the air vent now onto the

2:55 underlay. And so it's a small leak, but obviously it's leaking in, so that's probably the cause of the tailgate, sorry, it working its way into the boot as well, as another way as well. And then if we quickly come up onto the top of the tailgate, top of the cow gate, looks like it's been involved in an accident. And so we can see that obviously it's all split there.

3:21 The only problem is it's gonna have to have the bottom plastic replaced, which is the biggest part. And basically what that's doing is when the car's shut, it's allowing water to get into the tailgate, which it should exit out from these points here, the little holes. But instead what it's doing is it's going over the top of this rubber, and then it's then working water in just here, and then that will then fall down into the back as well.

This car was suffering from the trough under the scuttle filling up with water due to the drainage holes being blocked with leaves.

This was causing water to leak through the bulkhead around the pollen filter.

A second leak came through the door because the door membrane had perished, causing water to leak down through the door card.

There was also water in the boot caused by leaking around the rear air vents. Some interior trim on the rear tailgate is split, allowing water to bypass the drainage holes.

Solution
We'll unblock the drainage holes under the windscreen. Both door membranes will be replaced, as will the rear air vents and rear trim.

The car will then be decontaminated and dried, and it will be ready for the customer

Question: "Can you carry out all the work?"

Answer: We can carry out most of the work we find on most cars. This car has had some crash damage, and although we could replace the interior trim, you would need to go to a crash repair centre. Sometimes cars will need to go to a dealership or mechanic to repair/replace things like rusty servos. Thankfully, this is fairly rare.

More common are leaky windscreens, which will need the attention of a screen-fitter.
