After investigation, we found a door membrane leaking. It also appears that at some point a door rubber has been removed and re-fitted incorrectly, which is letting rain water past the door.

The main culprit for causing the wet carpet on this Bentley was a disconnected pipe for the sunroof drainage. It is fairly common on cars with sunroofs for the pipes to shrink with age, and as they shorten they pull off the connectors.
