A 14-year-old BMW coupe -- front bumper replaced, wing resprayed, four-stage buff, Fireball Dok Do ceramic coating. Gary's line: there is no substitute for doing a car properly. When you come back to it after filling up, you are getting back into a new car.
There is no substitute for doing a car properly. This BMW coupe is 14 years old. The front bumper was replaced and the front wing was resprayed -- you can respray a wing without respraying the whole car if the match is done correctly, and sometimes it makes more sense to address a damaged front end than to try and buff it into submission. Once that was done, the whole car got our four-stage machine polish and Fireball Dok Do ceramic coating.
This video was filmed with the original Fireball Dok Do formula. The product has since been significantly upgraded -- the current version is Fireball Dok Do Dual Titanium, a reformulated coating with a titanium compound added to the ceramic chemistry. The Dual Titanium version offers improved hardness, better scratch resilience, and a deeper gloss than the original. It is still a 10-year coating and still our flagship long-duration product.
Why Repair Before Polish
A ceramic coating seals in whatever is underneath it. A poor repair, a mismatched colour, a bumper that does not sit quite right -- all of that gets locked in permanently. So the sequence matters: fix what needs fixing, polish what remains, then coat. We also did a smart repair to a corner scuff while the car was in.
The four-stage polish removed the swirl marks and oxidation from the painted panels, wet-sanded any deeper scratches, and brought the whole car to a mirror finish before the coating went on.
The Result
Gary's description: when you fill it up with fuel and walk back to the car, you are getting back into a new car -- even though this one is 14 years old. That is what a properly done restoration achieves. The car will look like this for as long as he washes it and looks after it. He might need new sensors at some point. If he scrapes the wheels they can be refurbished. But the paintwork will stay right.
