Matrix Black and Blue Ceramic Coatings

Matrix Blue on a newer VW Golf (2-stage polish, alloy and fabric protection added) and Matrix Black on an older Mercedes (4-stage polish + headlight polish). Comparison of when to choose which coating.

Two cars in the same session for the two Matrix ceramic coatings.

The Volkswagen Golf was fairly new with good paintwork -- it only needed a two-stage polish, which kept the cost down. We will not do more work than a car actually needs. As well as Matrix Blue 3-year ceramic on the bodywork, it had a heat-resistant coating on the alloys to protect against brake dust, and interior fabric protector on the seats.

The Mercedes was older and had picked up the usual years of wash marks. We gave it a four-stage buff and re-polished the headlights before applying Matrix Black 8-year ceramic. Matrix Black is the choice when you intend to keep the car for the longer term. Matrix Recharge is the top-up product that extends the life of both coatings beyond the stated guarantee -- in our experience both products last longer than their guarantees anyway, but the Recharge keeps the hydrophobic effect at its best.

The short version on choosing between them: if you change cars every three years, Matrix Blue is right for you. If you are keeping the car indefinitely, Matrix Black earns its extra cost. Both are applied by an approved centre with the training, equipment, and environment to do it properly -- which matters more than the brand.
