This video shows how the welded seams at the top of the tailgate are leaking.
As well as the usual place where the roof panels are welded, there are also some cracks on the anchor parts for the hinges.
James pours water on the area and demonstrates where the water is getting through and filling the boot.
The welds themselves are not waterproof and so are covered in a bead of sealant in the factory. Over time, this flexible sealant can dry out and crack, allowing water ingress. The fix is simply to reseal the welds with sealant. Don't worry, there is no danger your car is becoming unwelded!
