VW Tiguan 2018 | Leaking Sunroof

Video transcript

0:00 OK, we've got a Volkswagen Tiguan in, a 2018, so just to quickly show you what we've found so far. If I get my special little meter, what this does is it tells us is there's any water underneath the carpets. So first of all we're going to focus on the driver's side, so we get no signs of any water underneath the carpet.

0:22 Round on the driver's rear, same again, so there's no signs of any water down here. Now if we come around to the passenger side, we'll start the passenger rear first of all. So the passenger rear, if we put our machine down, so it's beeping away, so it's telling us there's water underneath the carpet in the rear. And if we quickly come to the front and we put down here, so it's completely soaked on the passenger side. To get that dried we would have to obviously remove the seat, suck it out as much as we can, and then put our super dryer machine in

1:02 there, because obviously it can cause you a few problems, it can cause you electrical problems, smell and mould as well. And so just quickly show you obviously what the problem is. So up on the top here, they're very notorious for these. What they do is they get very dirty, so it's got a build-up of this dirt in the cassette. And what we're going to do is we're going to pour a bit of water down, just to act out like it's out in the rain. Now as we can see there

1:31 the cassette's filling up, but it's not running away. So the cassette's blocked, and then pipes come down the A-pillar. So it's this pipe here which comes all the way and then goes off into your bulkhead. So what that's doing is it's backing up and then coming down the A-pillar, because as you can see we've got no drops coming through. If we go around to the driver's side, driver's side is the same, but luckily enough this one hasn't leaked under the carpets, so we've catch, we've caught this one quite quick. So it is releasing a little bit this side, but not as quick

2:08 as it should do. So we'll just put some water in there, we can hear it bubbling away. So we can still see the waters there, but it is slowly draining away. So as we can see, it's slowly draining away here. And as we can see under there, we've got a couple of drips where it's starting to come through now. So it's the passenger side which is causing us the problem. So there we go, everything else has checked up fine. The only thing we would advise is taking his scuttle off, underneath the

2:41 scuttle, when these exit they have, it's like a cross on the grommet. So we advise obviously taking them out, cutting them so they don't obviously get blocked again, and do into the rears. So there we go, there's that one now.

Another Tiguan with the familiar problem of blocked hoses on the sunroof cassette causing a rain water leak on the passenger side, although both sides a blocked. They have a valve at the bottom which is easily blocked because of its design, which can be removed as there is no real need for a valve. The most important thing is to get the car dry before water ingress causes damp, mould, rust and electrical problems.

They have a spider trap at the bottom which is easily blocked because of its design, which can be removed as there is no real need for a valve.

A moisture meter across the carpets put the driver's side dry and the passenger side wet, so that is where we looked. The most important thing is to get the car dry before water ingress causes damp, mould, rust and electrical problems.
