We found several leaks on this Ford Fiesta. The welded seams in the top of the tailgate were found to be leaking.
This is not dangerous, there is nothing wrong with the actual welds, it's just the sealant has dried and cracked.
We also found the rear vents leaking on both sides, and a number of holes behind the bumper which had the tape peeling off them.
Amazingly, many manufacturers cut costs by sealing holes with sticky-tape instead of providing proper rubber grommets. This is not a modification, it's how they come from the factory. The sealant that affixes the tailgate rubber has perished, but we will seal this back on. Obviously, we don't fix this by replacing the sticky tape as we would never get away with such shoddy work. We will instead seal the holes up properly.
Although the light gaskets on Fiestas are known to leak, they were not on this particular vehicle.
