Volkswagen Tiguan Water Leaks

0:02 Carpool? Two, three years. Two, three years, yeah. I mean, how long have you had the problem for? Do you know? Can you trace it back? It's a bit hard to... Maybe a year. Maybe a year. What sort of gave it away, then? What sort of...? Just in the passenger footwell. It was just really damp.

Yeah. Yeah, and then we took it to Volkswagen. They said it was the sunroof. Did you get them flushed by them?

0:35 Yeah, they flushed them clean apparently. So, all done. And then when we took it here, your guys said it might be the windscreen. You had that changed in life. It's a replacement, is it? It's a replacement. Okay, alright. Who did you get replaced by? Autoglass or whatever? Autoglass. Okay. Alright, that's good. Any electrical faults at the moment then?

0:51 No. Any sort of like no dash lights up? Is your sunroof working alright? Yeah, it all works fine. Yeah, it all works fine. Yeah, there's no problem with the car actually. It's just the wind. Alright, alright. That's good. In for a water leak. The customer was finding water in the passenger side footwells. We've done a bit of testing, and obviously if you lift up a bit of the carpet you can start to see a bit of mould in there, and the same in the rear of the vehicle. Obviously this can happen over time; it is quite

1:19 damp on this side. Don't want to be leaving mould in there long term, can be bad for health, and obviously it's going to be really important to get the carpet dried out. You've got a lot of electrical components and bits and pieces for the seat runners and stuff. We'll see electric adjustment on the seats themselves.

1:36 So you don't want to leave that with water in there, so obviously get it all dried out. Gonna show you where the main leaks on the vehicle are. Obviously, the customer had got the sunroof pipes previously flushed out. We've done our testing on those. At the moment, they do seem to be running okay.

1:54 So we're not too concerned about that. We're now just gonna pour a bit of water down the door here. This is obviously gonna simulate a sort of a heavy downpour. And if we look, you've got obviously your drains at the side that they should run out of, but you've also got a very quick and consistent drip here.

2:11 You've then also got another one here. You can see how much that is dripping out, and that is obviously just gonna sit on this bit of plastic and then drip directly into your foot well. We've done our testing, and it is actually on all four doors that are leaking. Passenger side is a lot worse.

2:29 Passenger front is the one that is leaking so quickly. The driver's side has just started to do a few little drips as well. So we're gonna advise, we're gonna do all four door membranes. We'll take the door cards off themselves, reseal the door membranes and put them back together, which should hopefully resolve why that is so wet in there.

2:49 The other thing that we're just gonna note as an advisory on the vehicle is the scuttled area. Now, a lot of the TIG ones have a blanking plate one side and sort of a cage for the pollen filter on the passenger side. They do tend to leak over time as well. So what we've put on there on the estimate as an advisory, just to take the scuttle off and reseal those and clean the area.

3:14 Because, as I said, we get an awful lot of vehicles in with that particular issue. You can see a little bit of debris that side already, so we just want to make sure that they're all clear, running properly, so we don't have issues going forward. We're also going to put on the estimate a interior clean. The car itself doesn't particularly smell, there's no real odour, but because there are patches of mould starting to grow, that is obviously a bit of a concern.

3:40 We have obviously fogged the vehicle with our antimicrobial fog when it first comes in, so that's going to help to kill the mould. But it's not actually going to remove the patches itself underneath the car seat and things like that, it's starting to grow and spread. So obviously we'll put an interior clean on here as well; that will help to get rid of all of it.

3:58 All the seats will be deep cleaned, all the carpets cleaned and conditioned, and all the plastics and leathers and stuff like that. So I'll put that on there as well. 4:15 Quick update video for you. So the seats have come out of the vehicle, and we've taken the door membranes, sorry, the door cards off to get to the door membranes. So the guys are just cleaning up the areas at the moment. We've also taken off the speaker of the passenger side front, because that looked like one of the areas that it was let allowing water in. So obviously we're gonna clean up all the area, scotch it all up and then get them all bonded back on. On the

4:44 rears, some of them had sort of a plasticky rubber seal on them, but it was all perished as well, so that may well have been a reason it was allowing watering. And we can see drip lines going down from where they were leaking, so obviously important. So, as you can see, my clover bear just scotching it all up, ready to get it all funded back on. But yeah, just thought I'd give you a little update. Right, so just another little update on the Tiguan. You can see we've got the carpets

5:13 pinned up, and if I give this little squeeze you can see how much water is actually coming out of it. You can see all that build up there, so you can see how much water gets under here. I don't know if you can see, but there's a nice little puddle at the back, you can see there. So yeah, what we need to do now is just suck the rest of the water out and put it on dry, and then yeah, this one's good to go. We've already had the door membranes off, put them back on, and then obviously we take the

5:38 scuttle off, clean that all out, reseal the blanking plates, and that's it. So just give me a little update. Okay, so just a little update video for you. So the VW Tiguan is now under the rain arch. This is obviously simulating a very heavy downpour. This is going to be testing all of the door membranes, scuffle area, make sure that all of our repairs are holding up under the longer water exposure. So what we do, we'll leave this under here for about, we normally say about half an hour, four to five minutes or so.

6:10 Once it, we are happy that it's all good, we'll give it a quick courtesy wash, just tidy it up for you, and then it will need to go out and have its real world test. By that we mean obviously drive it around as normal, park it as normal, just use it as often as you usually would, and then just go out there after the first few heavy downpours, just keep your hands in those areas that you were finding water before, just to make sure it's all good.
