0:00 Today we have a Volvo V70 in, and we're just going to show you what we've found. And so we're focusing on the front windscreen, and so what I've done is I've put some foam around the outside. And what we're going to do is we're going to put a airline, so it's got air pressure in through from the inside. So let me just quickly get this airline hooked up. Okay, so what we're going to do is we're going to run it round on the inside of the window. There's a big gap here, and it actually looks

0:42 like there's a gap all the way across the top of the window screen. So what that thing calls in, is it calls in water to come down into the footwells. If we just quickly go round and show you the passenger side as well. So focus back up here again, so we put the air line back up inside. There we go, so a big hole all across that top sill there.

1:16 Okay, and then what's happening is the water's coming through the front screen, it's then running down on the bottom of the screen, and then it's releasing itself, and then it's going underneath the carpets and the underlay. If we just quickly lift this little bit of underlay up here, so we can see there that that foam, that foam's soaking wet under there. And it's actually come, it's gone from the front all the way to the back on the passenger side. And so there we go, we found obviously the leak on that one

1:50 there. And so we're gonna put an estimate together, and that's that one all done.

This one is pretty self-explanatory. For whatever reason the bonding at the top of the screen on this Volvo V70 has shrunk and come away, or it was never bonded properly in the first place, causing lots of water to leak in.

This has left the car with plenty of water in it, the carpets soaked and electric cables sitting in water, which is never an ideal situation.

Solution: The window can be refitted and bonded in properly. There is nothing wrong with this screen, it just needs to be properly fitted. With that done, we can see about drying the car.

Question: "I think i have a leaky screen, can I claim on the insurance?"

Answer: You could certainly try. If you have windscreen cover as part of your insurance policy, and you had an incorrectly fitted windscreen through them, then they should certainly be informed. The key is to tell them you want your car dried properly. There is a tendency for some companies to send around a mobile guy to shampoo the carpets and that's about it. This will not dry the car out, but I don't think a lot of the people who deal with these matters at insurance companies are aware of that.
