A Porsche Taycan collected from the dealer the day before -- fully electric, a couple of test drive miles on it. In for Matrix Black on a Saturday morning. Gary explains why even a brand-new car benefits from machine polishing, and how the cost of a ceramic coating is structured.
Saturday morning. A Porsche Taycan arrived yesterday from the dealer -- fully electric, a couple of test drive miles on it. The owner wanted it protected straight away, so here it is the following morning going in for Matrix Black.
Cars like this are why Matrix Black is our flagship coating at the moment. It will leave the car looking shinier than it did coming out of the showroom -- and more importantly, it will stay that way. On a car this good, why wouldn't you.
Why New Cars Still Need Polishing
Cars are no longer polished at the factory. They leave the production line with self-levelling paint -- shiny as it is, but raw. From there they get transport protection, dealer prep washes, and possibly several cleans while they sit in the showroom. By the time you collect it, there are already micro-scratches and wash marks in the lacquer. Not many on a car like this Taycan, but they are there. A machine polish before the coating removes them and gives the paint a depth it would not otherwise have. When detailers say they can make a new car shinier than it left the factory, it is not an idle boast.
How Much Does Ceramic Coating Cost
Because the paintwork has to be prepared before any coating goes on, we sell our coatings as a package that includes the machine polishing and preparation work. The price varies based on two things: the condition of the car and the coating you choose.
A new car like this Taycan needs less preparation than a used car -- less to correct, less to remove. That is reflected in the price; we have separate rates for new and used. Preparation is still required regardless of age -- ceramic coatings cannot go over any trace of wax or polish residue, so a full decontamination and alcohol wipe is always part of the job.
The second variable is how long you want the protection to last. There is no point paying for an eight-year coating if you are planning to change the car in two. We have coatings from one year up to eight years and beyond; the right choice depends on how long you plan to keep it. See our Matrix Black ceramic coating service and full coating range.
