This BMW had wet carpets on the driver's side, which it was suspected was coming from under the dashboard.
Our inspection revealed that leaves in the scuttle area were blocking drainage holes, allowing water to raise to a level where it could pass a leaking grommet in the bulkhead.
We also found the rear air vents behind the bumper to be leaking.
Solution
We cleaned the scuttle of debris and resealed the leaking grommet. We also removed the lights and back bumper to access the rear air vents -- everything was cleaned and sealed as it was put back together.
The car was decontaminated to prevent mould, and the seats were removed and carpet lifted, so the car could be thoroughly dried.
Note
Leaks from under the dashboard are a common problem on BMWs, and it's usually caused by a leaking blanking plate. See our other #BMW videos for more information.
