0:00 We have a Ford Focus 2012 in today for our water leak procedure, so I'm just going to show you what we've found so far. So the first thing we're going to concentrate is the driver's rear door. So what we're going to do is we're going to put a little bit of water down the outside of the window, and it should simulate that it's running out the bottom of the door, which it is doing.

0:20 And if we look closely, we can see a tiny little drop here starting to come through. So that's obviously the driver's rear door membrane leaking. And if we now come round to the back of the car. And what we've got is we've got our twisty camera and which goes up into a box section. And if we look closely we can see the vent now. So what we're going to do is, I've just pulled the bumper back a little bit, so we're going to pour some water down here on the back side, so it goes on to the back of the air vent.

0:52 And if we go on the inside here as I'm pouring in, there we go, so we can see it coming in quite heavily there. And so that would be both rear air vents are doing exactly the same. And then what's then happening is we can see that all the back of the floor pan is wet, we've got wetness signs in the back here. And what it's actually doing is it's using these side bits as a gully, and then what it then does is it travels down past the

1:23 back seat and then goes on to the footwells. This one has actually travelled all the way up to the drivers footwell. So if I can just lift up this little gap here, so we can see that it's absolutely soaking wet under there. So it's wetting the drivers front, drivers rear. If we now come round to the passenger front, if I can just show you, I've just popped up this trim here, so my hand's nice and dry, and if we just put my hand underneath this carpet and underlay and give it a squeeze, there we go, so we can see how wet it is, so

2:08 it's wet in all four footwells, so that's what we've found so far.

Another Ford Focus water leak video. Yes, we know they all look pretty much the same, but our primary purpose for this channel is to document leaks, we as a company find on individual vehicles.

We have a leaking door membrane on the driver's side and the usual problem with both rear air vents leaking, so the water gets in, floods the boot, then leaks down onto the rear floor pans until there is no more room there. Then it leaks into the front.

Solution: Replace all four door membranes with nice new ones. Replace the air vents. Dry the car. (The car has already been decontaminated for mould and fungus before we start work on the car).

Question: "My Focus is soaked, I'm sure I have one of these leaks -- where to begin?.

Answer: With cars like a Ford Focus, we would recommend doing it all. We have done enough of these to know where they begin to leak and at roughly what age. We do our inspection to make sure there are no surprises like a leaking replacement screen or leaks from bodywork damage, and we track down the 'actual' leaks, but we would still recommend you replace door membranes and rear air vents even if they aren't found to be leaking. They tend to start to leak somewhere between 8 and 10 years old, so while we have your car in bits, it might as well be done as relatively, these are not expensive parts to replace.
