Mazda MX5 2008 | Water Leak Found (part 3)

0:00 OK, so back onto the MX5. Just a couple of things to note before we do the test. We're going to be focusing on both doors now. Just a note on this side here, it looks like there's a bit of trim missing, so obviously I believe that wouldn't cause water to go inside the car, but it may go inside the door. We can see that the window seal looks nice and clean here. If we quickly go round to the driver's side, what I have noticed before I start testing

0:29 is the front window doesn't seem to be butted up against the actual plastic, and seems to be a bit wobbly, but it does seem to be going up and down. But just to obviously show you that, and it's this little bit of plastic which is missing on the opposite side. And so what we're going to do now is we're going to get our lever bars, and we're just gonna obviously put our lever bars down here very carefully, just so it opens up the window.

0:56 Okay, and then what we do is we turn our torches on. Okay, so we're gonna do the usual, we're gonna pour a bit of water down the outside of the door, just so it's out simulating it's raining. So pour loads of water down there. So we can see that it's coming out through the bottom of the door, but if we look closely, we can see that it's coming out on the top of this rubber. Now the only problem with that is, when the door shuts the rubber will squash against here, and then the

1:31 water will come over the top of the rubber and then eventually make its way down into the footwells. So that would be the driver's one which is leaking. And then if we just quickly come around to the passenger side, and we do exactly the same procedure on the passenger side. So let's just quickly get round here. Okay, so we put the torch there. Once again, just doing it very carefully, we're just going to put the lever bars down there just so it opens up the window. Okay, and if we

2:06 pour water down here, okay, so we can see that it's falling out the bottom. But once again we can see that there is run marks on top of this door, and if I just push on that rubber just a tiny bit, you can see that it just all flows in. And so that would be the passenger door membrane leaking as well. And the next we're going to show you is a common fault on the scuttle area, and so that will be in the next video.
