0:00 OK, so we've got a Volkswagen Golf in today, 2005, and so we're just going to show you what we've found, because we've just done our water leak procedures. So what we're going to focus on is, in here you have the air vent behind the rear bumper, and as you can see there's dirt lines there of it leaking. So what we're going to do is, we're just going to put a bit of water down the back of the light here, to simulate when it's out in the

0:23 rain. So if we obviously put a load of water there and go on the inside. Right, OK, so we can see that that's letting water through on the bottom there, and then what we're getting is we're getting this little puddle here. So that would be the driver's rear air vent, the passenger doesn't seem to be leaking. If we now just come over to the driver's rear membrane, we've put a lever tool down there, just going to put a bit of water down the outside of the windows of

1:00 simulating it's raining. Now if we come on the inside, it should be coming out the bottom, which is doing, so you can see it coming out the bottom. But if we look very closely, just need the camera to focus, there we go, so we're getting lines of water coming out from the door panel. So that would be the membrane which is leaking now, and so that's obviously a leak. There we go. Okay, and then what we're going to do is we're just going to go over to the driver, passenger rear

This VW Golf had a number of leaks, in this video we show how rain water is getting inside the car via an air vent behind the back bumper which is leaking into the boot.

We can also see that the driver's side rear door membrane has probably become un-bonded which means water is leaking in through the door card.

Solution: Remove the rear air vent, clean it of dirt, and then reseal it. Replace the door membrane.

Question: "I had my windscreen replaced, and it leaked, making the front of the car wet on the carpets. The windscreen company has now refitted the screen, but my car still has wet carpets, smells damp and is not satisfactory. They have offered to send around a mobile valeter to shampoo the carpets, but I don't think this will get the water out."

Answer: We don't think that valeting the car would be enough either, at most it will suck surface water out of the carpets but not remove the water under them. It is not good to have dirty rain water sitting in your car, aside from the health issues, we recently heard of a fellow who needed most of his electrics replaced including the wiring loom after water got into it. Needless to say, this got very expensive, far more expensive than drying the car out properly in the first place.
